By Christopher Burns, Owner, C&G Holsters. We design and build Kydex holsters in the USA, at our shop outside Pittsburgh, with a team of veterans and law enforcement. Last updated: October 25, 2026.
Ruger makes some of the most carried pistols in America, and a lot of first-time carriers start with one. That is exactly why the holster matters: a good Kydex holster that clicks, covers the trigger and stays put is what turns a Ruger in a drawer into a Ruger you actually carry. Here is our Ruger lineup and how to pick.
Short answer: Pick the holster molded for your exact Ruger. C&G makes IWB COVERT/ALPHA and OWB COVERT holsters for the MAX-9, IWB COVERT and OWB COVERT holsters for the Security-9, a shared IWB COVERT holster for the EC9s, LC9 and LC9s, and IWB COVERT holsters for the LCP, LCP II and LCR revolver. Our LCR holster will not fit the LCRx.

What Is the Best IWB Holster for a Ruger MAX-9?
The MAX-9 is a micro-compact 9mm built to hide, and our Ruger MAX-9 IWB COVERT/ALPHA (Quickship) is the holster most MAX-9 owners pick from us. It is slim, the cant adjusts, and it has a built-in wedge that tilts the grip toward your body. Add the ALPHA upgrade and you get 1.75" metal belt clips and a Dark Wing attachment for even less printing. Prefer to carry on the outside? The MAX-9 OWB COVERT rides close and fast.

Which Holster Fits the Ruger Security-9?
The Security-9 is a bigger, budget-friendly compact that a lot of new shooters buy as a first carry gun. We build the Security-9 IWB COVERT and the Security-9 OWB COVERT. These fit both the Security-9 and the Security-9 Compact. We do not make a light-bearing Security-9 holster.
Will One Holster Fit the EC9s, LC9 and LC9s?
Yes. Those three single-stack 9mm pistols share a frame and slide profile close enough that we mold one holster for all of them: the Ruger EC9s/LC9/LC9s IWB COVERT. It is one of the easiest deep-concealment setups you can put together.
Which Holster Fits the LCP or LCP II?
These are pocket-size .380s, but they still need a real holster that covers the trigger. The LCP and LCP II are different guns, so they have separate molds: the Ruger LCP IWB COVERT and the Ruger LCP II IWB COVERT. Check which one you own before you order. Want backup-gun ideas? See our backup gun setup guide.
Which Holster Fits the Ruger LCR?
Our Ruger LCR IWB COVERT is molded for the LCR with a 1.75" revolver clip. Our product page notes it will not fit the newer LCRx, so double-check the model stamped on your revolver.
IWB or OWB for a Ruger?
For the MAX-9, EC9s family, LCP, LCP II and LCR, IWB is the natural choice; these guns were designed to disappear. The Security-9 and MAX-9 also come in OWB COVERT for range days, open carry or carrying under a jacket. Our OWB vs IWB guide breaks down the tradeoffs, and our micro-compact holster guide covers carry positions for small pistols.
Do C&G Ruger Holsters Work With a Red Dot or Light?
We do not make light-bearing holsters for any Ruger. If you run an optic, check the product page notes or ask us before ordering, especially on the MAX-9. If a weapon light is a must, read our light-bearing holster buyer’s guide for the pistols we do build light-bearing holsters for.
New to Carrying a Ruger?
A lot of Ruger owners are new carriers, and that is great. Start with a holster that fully covers the trigger, a stiff belt and lots of dry practice. Our first holster setup guide and holster safety habits for new carriers are good next reads.
How Do You Fit-Test a New Holster on Your Ruger?
Every holster we ship gets seated and drawn on a dedicated test gun for that model before it leaves the shop. Still, run this check at home before you carry:
- Unload the pistol, remove the magazine and lock the slide to confirm it is clear.
- Seat the gun and listen for a clean retention click.
- Make sure the trigger guard is fully covered and nothing presses on the trigger.
- Draw slowly ten times, then at normal speed. Watch for drag or binding.
- Adjust the retention screw in small steps if it feels too tight or too loose.
- If it does not click, binds, or leaves the trigger exposed, do not carry it. Call us.
We walk through what a correct fit looks like in how we fit-test every holster.
QUICKSHIP or CUSTOM: Which Should You Order?
Quickship holsters are built in black and ship within 5 business days. Custom holsters let you pick colors and patterns and ship within 15 business days. Fit, retention and materials are the same either way. If you need it on your belt this month, order Quickship. If you want it to look like yours, go Custom. Our Quickship vs Custom breakdown has the details.
What Gun Belt Should You Run With It?
A good holster on a flimsy belt still sags and prints. Use a stiff, purpose-built gun belt. For sizing, add 4 inches to your pant size; that leaves room for an IWB holster and a shirt tuck. See our gun belts and our guide to the best gun belt for IWB carry.
Still Not Sure Which Ruger Holster to Get?
Tell us your exact model, barrel length, light, optic and how you carry, and we will point you to the right mold. We would rather answer a question than have you guess. Every C&G holster is built in the USA by veterans and law enforcement and backed by our lifetime warranty. Refunds, if you ever need one, are processed within 10 business days.
