Built for Your Setup, Not Just Something Close Enough
A holster that almost fits is not a holster that works. "Close enough" means inconsistent draw, unreliable retention, and a safety problem you carry every day. Precision fitment is non-negotiable.
At C&G Holsters, we offer two tiers: Quickship (ships in 5 business days) and Custom (ships in 15 business days). Both are CNC-machined from custom aluminum molds. Both deliver the same retention standard and the same repeatable draw, every single time.
Here is the misconception we hear most often: Quickship holsters are NOT pre-made shelf stock. They are made-to-order on a faster production track. The difference between the two tiers comes down to configuration scope, not quality.
Kydex holsters are the fastest-growing segment in the holster market, with a projected 5.2% CAGR through 2034, and buyers are more informed than ever. This article gives you a clear, use-case-driven answer to which tier belongs in your cart.
What Quickship Actually Means (And What It Doesn't)
Quickship holsters are built from pre-engineered molds covering the most popular firearm-and-configuration combinations. You order one, we build it, and it ships in 5 business days. That is not a warehouse pull. That is a made-to-order holster on an accelerated timeline.
The retention quality, the CNC precision, the aluminum mold process: all identical to custom. The difference is configuration scope. Quickship is available in black only, and that is the primary limitation beyond model coverage.
Quickship covers the most common carry setups: standard frames, popular micro-compacts like the Sig P365, Glock 43X, and Springfield Hellcat, and widely used OWB and IWB configurations. The expansion of micro-compact pistols over the past few years means more setups than ever qualify for Quickship. The question "do I need custom?" is more nuanced in 2026 than it was even two years ago.
For LEO, military, and executive protection professionals, this matters operationally. Five days versus fifteen days is not a convenience question. It is a duty readiness decision. If your department issues a standard-frame duty pistol without a weapon light and you need a holster before next week's deployment, Quickship is the answer.

What Custom Unlocks: Color, Pattern, and Configuration
Custom holsters ship in 15 business days, one of the tightest custom turnarounds in the industry. ANR Design and JM Custom Kydex commonly quote 3 to 7 weeks for custom orders. Fifteen business days puts us at the faster end of that spectrum. Custom does not mean waiting months.
Going custom unlocks the full Kydex color and pattern library. Solid colors include Blood Red, Coyote Brown, FDE, and OD Green. Carbon Fiber finishes include Carbon Fiber Black, Carbon Fiber FDE, and Carbon Fiber Killer Coyote. Multicam patterns span Multicam, Multicam Arid, Multicam Black, and Multicam Tropic. We also carry exclusive patterns like Finnish M05 Woodland Camo.
This is not cosmetic fluff. LEO and military carriers use Kydex color and pattern to match gear systems, unit colors, or personal identity. According to Indy Concealment's 2026 industry trends report, customization is now a primary purchase driver across the holster market. Color choice has become part of the loadout decision.
Custom also covers left-hand configurations for models where Quickship does not offer a southpaw option. If you are left-handed and your model is not in the Quickship catalog, custom is your path by default.
Hardware options, clip configurations, and cant adjustability are all available at the custom tier. The OWB TACTICAL Kydex Holster | CUSTOM is a strong example of a fully configurable duty-ready platform where color, retention, and carry mode can all be dialed in to the operator's exact spec.

When Custom Is the Only Correct Answer
If your pistol has a weapon-mounted light, go custom. This is not a preference. It is a mechanical fitment requirement.
The light body itself becomes part of the retention system. According to our Light-Bearing Holster Buyer's Guide, the firearm and the specific light model must be molded together as a single unit. A holster molded for a TLR-7 will not properly fit a TLR-1 HL, even though both are Streamlight products. Different body dimensions, different control placement, different retention geometry. As Eclipse Holsters explains, these are fundamentally incompatible pairings.
Avoid universal-fit light-bearing holsters. They use adjustable retention screws to accommodate multiple light models, but this introduces a less precise grip on the light body, retention that loosens over time, and reduced security compared to a custom-molded solution.
Add a compensator and you introduce another fitment variable that most buyer guides skip entirely. A holster fitting one comp profile may not fit another. Custom ordering becomes mandatory.
Then there is the trifecta scenario: a pistol running a red dot optic, a weapon-mounted light, and a compensator simultaneously. This setup requires a holster with an optic cut and a light-bearing shell. That dual-compatibility scenario is not something Quickship can cover.
One more point worth stating clearly: if you change your weapon-mounted light after ordering a light-bearing holster, you will likely need a new holster. The retention geometry and control clearance are specific to the original firearm-and-light pairing. As On Your 6 Designs notes, finalize your build before you order.
Mixed Orders, FAQs, and the Decision Checklist
If you place a Quickship item and a Custom item in the same order, the entire order ships on the custom timeline (15 business days). If speed matters, place them as separate orders.
Quick Decision Checklist
- Does your setup exist in the Quickship catalog? Order Quickship.
- Do you need a specific color or pattern? Go Custom.
- Do you run a weapon light, optic, or compensator? Go Custom.
- Are you left-handed and your model is not covered in Quickship? Go Custom.
- Do you need it in under a week for duty? Quickship, if your config qualifies.
Use-Case Recommendations
- New CCW owner with a standard pistol: Quickship.
- Duty LEO needing fast turnaround on a standard config: Quickship.
- Competitive shooter running a light-equipped build: Custom.
- Military operator matching unit gear colors: Custom.
- EP professional with a comp and light on a duty pistol: Custom.
Proper fitment guidance at the point of purchase matters. According to Intel Market Research, approximately 40% of first-time concealed carry owners report discomfort with holster use. Getting the right configuration from the start eliminates that problem.
Order with Confidence: American-Made, Either Way
Both Quickship and Custom holsters are 100% American-made using locally sourced materials. Both are CNC-machined from custom aluminum molds for a consistent, repeatable draw every time. There is no quality gap between the two tiers.
This company was founded by a retired Law Enforcement Officer and Master Firearms Instructor. Every holster we build, Quickship or custom, reflects that standard. Our team includes U.S. Military Veterans, LEOs, and competitive shooters who design and vet every product we ship.
With over 4,200 verified customer reviews and broad gun-model compatibility, the track record speaks for itself. With 2025 tariff adjustments increasing costs for manufacturers reliant on offshore fabrication, American-made options are more price-competitive relative to imported alternatives than they have been in years. According to Gun Carrier, premium Kydex rigs now commonly exceed $100, making the value of domestic manufacturing clearer than ever.
Check the Quickship catalog first. If your configuration is there, order it. If it is not, or if your build demands it, go custom. Both paths lead to the same standard of American craftsmanship.
