Glock 19 vs 43X vs 48 vs 45 Holster Guide: Fit Differences

By: Christopher J. Burns

Same Family, Different Molds

The Glock 19, 43X, 48, and 45 are frequently treated as interchangeable. They are not for holster purposes. Width, slide length, and grip height differences change how each pistol seats in a Kydex shell and where retention occurs. C&G Holsters uses dedicated CNC-machined molds held to 0.003" tolerance for these platforms. Each holster is fit-tested with the corresponding firearm configuration before it ships.

Key Dimensional Differences

Model Overall Length Barrel Length Height (with mag) Overall Width Slide Length Standard Capacity
Glock 19 7.28 in 4.02 in 5.04 in 1.34 in 6.85 in 15+1
Glock 45 7.44 in 4.02 in 5.47 in 1.34 in 6.85 in 17+1
Glock 43X 6.50 in 3.41 in 5.04 in 1.10 in 6.06 in 10+1
Glock 48 7.28 in 4.17 in 5.04 in 1.10 in 6.85 in 10+1

Approximate published dimensions. Actual fit can vary slightly by generation and configuration.

A holster molded for the Glock 19 or 45 will not retain a 43X or 48 consistently because of the width difference. A 43X holster is too short for the 48 slide. The 45 shares slide length with the 19, so many shells designed for that grouping accommodate both; the longer grip on the 45 primarily affects concealment rather than retention geometry.

MOS and non-MOS variants, plus the presence of a rail, can further affect dust-cover geometry. Confirm the exact model on the product page.

Carry Style Matching

Glock 43X

The shorter slide works well for everyday concealed carry in the IWB COVERT and ALPHA series. The ALPHA upgrade adds 1.75" CNG spring-steel clips and a Dark Wing. Light-bearing options exist for the TLR-7 Sub series. View Glock 43X holsters.

Glock 48

The longer slide provides more muzzle contact below the belt line, which can improve stability in appendix or strong-side IWB carry compared with the 43X. IWB COVERT/ALPHA, OWB COVERT, MOD1, and TRINITY options are available. View Glock 48 holsters.

Glock 19 and Glock 45

Both use the wider standard-frame slide. The 19’s shorter grip is generally easier to conceal IWB; the 45’s full-size grip increases capacity and control but prints more readily under a cover garment. Many C&G shells are listed for the 19/23/44/45 grouping. IWB COVERT/ALPHA, OWB COVERT, MOD1, TRINITY, and light-bearing TACTICAL options are available. View Glock holsters.

Practical Notes

  • The 43X and 48 share magazines, but not holster shells.
  • The 19 and 45 share slide length, so many holsters cover both; the 45’s taller grip sits outside the shell.
  • Adding a weapon light (TLR-7 Sub on Slimline models, TLR-1 or TLR-7 on the 19/45) requires a dedicated TACTICAL mold. A light must be mounted for the holster to function.
  • Optics-ready (MOS) models generally fit the same shell as non-MOS versions of the same model when the optic is not mounted, but confirm the listing.
  • Pair any IWB setup with a rigid gun belt to maintain consistent cant and retention.
