Canik and Taurus Holster Guide: TP9 Elite SC, TP9SF, TP9SFX, GX4 and G2C IWB and OWB (QUICKSHIP & CUSTOM)

By Christopher Burns, Owner, C&G Holsters. We design and build Kydex holsters in the USA, at our shop outside Pittsburgh, with a team of veterans and law enforcement. Last updated: October 25, 2026.

Canik and Taurus have earned a lot of shooters' trust by putting good triggers and real features into pistols that do not break the bank. The holster market has been slower to catch up, so owners often end up with a loose nylon "fits most" rig. You deserve better than that. Here is every Canik and Taurus we mold for and how to pick.

Short answer: C&G makes IWB COVERT/ALPHA Kydex holsters for the Canik TP9 Elite SC 3.6", TP9SF 4.1", TP9SF 4.5" and TP9SFX 5.25". For Taurus, we make an IWB COVERT/ALPHA for the GX4 (not the railed GX4 Carry) and IWB COVERT and OWB COVERT holsters for the G2C.

What Is the Best Holster for a Canik TP9 Elite SC?

The Elite SC is Canik's compact carry gun and the model we see carried most. Our TP9 Elite SC 3.6" IWB COVERT/ALPHA is slim, the cant adjusts and it has a built-in wedge to tilt the grip in. It is cut to work with most RMR-footprint red dots. Add the ALPHA package for 1.75" metal belt clips and a Dark Wing attachment if you want maximum concealment.

Which Holster Fits the TP9SF and TP9SFX?

Barrel length is the key. The TP9SF comes in more than one length, and we mold the 4.1" and 4.5" separately, so check your spec sheet before ordering. The TP9SFX is the 5.25" long-slide competition-style model with its own mold. All three are IWB COVERT/ALPHA. A full-size or long-slide Canik can absolutely be carried IWB with a good belt; ride height and cant do most of the work. Our gun belt guide helps here.

Does C&G Make an OWB or Light-Bearing Canik Holster?

No. Our Canik lineup is IWB COVERT/ALPHA only, and none of those holsters are light-bearing. If you need a weapon light holster, our light-bearing holster buyer’s guide lists the pistols we build them for. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you a holster that does not fit.

Which Holster Fits the Taurus GX4?

Our Taurus GX4 IWB COVERT/ALPHA is molded for the standard GX4 micro-compact. Our product page notes it will not fit the GX4 Carry, which has a different frame with an accessory rail. If you own a GX4 Carry or GX4 XL, contact us before ordering.

Which Holster Fits the Taurus G2C?

The G2C is one of the most common budget carry pistols in the country. We make the Taurus G2C IWB COVERT and the Taurus G2C OWB COVERT. The Quickship IWB is listed in right hand; check the Custom listing if you need left hand. We do not fit the Taurus G3C.

Why a Molded Kydex Holster for a Budget Gun?

An affordable pistol still deserves a safe holster. A model-specific Kydex holster covers the trigger guard completely, gives a positive click when you reholster, and holds its shape so you can reholster one-handed. A "fits most" soft holster can collapse, shift or let something reach the trigger. If you are new to carrying, read our holster safety habits for new carriers and first holster setup guide.

IWB or OWB?

For the Elite SC, GX4 and G2C, IWB is the everyday choice. The G2C also has OWB COVERT for range days or carrying under a cover garment. Our OWB vs IWB guide explains the tradeoffs, and our IWB COVERT vs ALPHA guide covers the ALPHA upgrade.

How Do You Fit-Test a New Holster on Your Canik or Taurus?

Every holster we ship gets seated and drawn on a dedicated test gun for that model before it leaves the shop. Still, run this check at home before you carry:

  1. Unload the pistol, remove the magazine and lock the slide to confirm it is clear.
  2. Seat the gun and listen for a clean retention click.
  3. Make sure the trigger guard is fully covered and nothing presses on the trigger.
  4. Draw slowly ten times, then at normal speed. Watch for drag or binding.
  5. Adjust the retention screw in small steps if it feels too tight or too loose.
  6. If it does not click, binds, or leaves the trigger exposed, do not carry it. Call us.

We walk through what a correct fit looks like in how we fit-test every holster.

QUICKSHIP or CUSTOM: Which Should You Order?

Quickship holsters are built in black and ship within 5 business days. Custom holsters let you pick colors and patterns and ship within 15 business days. Fit, retention and materials are the same either way. If you need it on your belt this month, order Quickship. If you want it to look like yours, go Custom. Our Quickship vs Custom breakdown has the details.

What Gun Belt Should You Run With It?

A good holster on a flimsy belt still sags and prints. Use a stiff, purpose-built gun belt. For sizing, add 4 inches to your pant size; that leaves room for an IWB holster and a shirt tuck. See our gun belts and our guide to the best gun belt for IWB carry.

Still Not Sure Which Canik or Taurus Holster to Get?

Tell us your exact model, barrel length, light, optic and how you carry, and we will point you to the right mold. We would rather answer a question than have you guess. Every C&G holster is built in the USA by veterans and law enforcement and backed by our lifetime warranty. Refunds, if you ever need one, are processed within 10 business days.
