By Christopher Burns, Owner, C&G Holsters. We design and build Kydex holsters in the USA, at our shop outside Pittsburgh, with a team of veterans and law enforcement. Last updated: October 25, 2026.
The M&P M2.0 is one of the most common duty and carry pistols we see come through the shop, and it is also one of the easiest to buy the wrong holster for. Barrel length, caliber family and light all change the mold. Here is how we sort it out, shooter to shooter.
Short answer: Match the holster to your M&P's caliber family and barrel length. The M&P 9 and 40 M2.0 share molds (5", 4.25", 4" Compact and 3.6" Subcompact). The M&P 10 and 45 M2.0 share their own molds (5", 4.6" and 4"). For a weapon light, pick an IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA or OWB TACTICAL holster made for your exact light. Our M&P M2.0 holsters will not fit the M&P Metal Frame or the new M&P Comp models.
Start with the C&G Smith & Wesson holster collection, or use the chart below to jump to your exact model.
Key Takeaways
- M&P 9 and M&P 40 M2.0 use the same molds; M&P 10 and M&P 45 M2.0 use a separate, larger set.
- Barrel length matters: 5", 4.25", 4" Compact and 3.6" Subcompact each have their own IWB COVERT/ALPHA holster.
- Light-bearing options cover the Streamlight TLR-7/A/X, TLR-8/A/G, TLR-1/HL and SureFire X300U/T and X300V. The light must be on the gun.
- M&P Metal Frame and M&P Comp models are not covered by these molds.
- Quickship ships within 5 business days; Custom ships within 15.
Which M&P M2.0 Do You Have?
Look at the slide and your box. The caliber tells you the frame family, and the barrel length tells you the mold. A 4.25" M&P 9 and a 4" M&P 9 Compact look close, but a holster made for one is not the holster for the other. The same goes for the 4" and 4.6" M&P 45. If you are not sure, measure the barrel or check the serial-number lookup on Smith & Wesson's site before you order.

What Is the Best IWB Holster for an M&P 9 M2.0?
For everyday concealed carry without a light, we point most people to the IWB COVERT/ALPHA. It is slim, has adjustable cant and a built-in concealment wedge that tucks the grip in. The ALPHA upgrade adds 1.75" metal belt clips and a Dark Wing attachment to help the grip stay tight to your body.
- M&P 9/40 M2.0 4.25" IWB COVERT/ALPHA (Quickship)
- M&P 9/40 M2.0 Compact 4" IWB COVERT/ALPHA (Quickship)
- M&P 9/40 M2.0 Subcompact 3.6" IWB COVERT/ALPHA (Quickship)
Not sure whether you need the ALPHA package? We break it down in IWB COVERT vs IWB ALPHA.
What About the M&P 45 and M&P 10 M2.0?
The 10mm and .45 ACP M2.0 pistols are a bigger frame, so they get their own molds. We make IWB COVERT/ALPHA and OWB COVERT holsters in 5", 4.6" and 4". Carrying a 4.6" M&P 45 inside the waistband is very doable with a good belt and the ALPHA wing; a 5" gun is usually happier OWB.
- M&P 10/45 M2.0 4" IWB COVERT/ALPHA (Quickship)
- M&P 10/45 M2.0 4.6" IWB COVERT/ALPHA (Quickship)
- M&P 10/45 M2.0 5" OWB COVERT (Quickship)
Which Light-Bearing Holster Fits an M&P M2.0?
If you run a weapon light, the holster has to be built around that light. Our TACTICAL line comes in IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA and OWB TACTICAL, and each one is made for specific lights:
- Streamlight TLR-7/A/X: the compact choice for concealed carry. M&P 9/40 M2.0 TLR-7/A/X IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA. Yes, we fit the 5" M&P 9/40 M2.0 with a TLR-7 or TLR-8; choose the 5" barrel length on the Custom listing.
- Streamlight TLR-8/A/G: adds a laser. M&P 9/40 M2.0 TLR-8/A/G IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA.
- Streamlight TLR-1/HL: full-size output. M&P 9/40 M2.0 TLR-1/HL IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA (5", 4.25" or 4") and OWB TACTICAL.
- SureFire X300U/T and X300V: M&P 9/40 M2.0 X300U/T IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA.
- M&P 10/45 with a light: M&P 10/45 M2.0 TLR-1/HL IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA and M&P 10/45 M2.0 X300U/T OWB TACTICAL.
One rule we will repeat every time: the light must be mounted on the gun. A light-bearing holster will not retain the pistol without it. For more on picking a light, read our light-bearing holster buyer’s guide.
IWB or OWB for an M&P?
IWB hides the gun under a shirt and is the default for daily carry. OWB is faster and more comfortable for range days, open carry, hunting or when you are wearing a jacket. Many of our customers own one of each. If you want an OWB setup, the M&P 9/40 M2.0 4.25" OWB COVERT rides tight to the body, and the M&P 9/40 M2.0 5" COMPETITION holster is built for IDPA, USPSA, SCSA and 3-Gun. Our OWB vs IWB Kydex guide goes deeper.
Is There a Chest Holster for the M&P?
Yes. The M&P 9/40 M2.0 DENALI chest-mounted holster system is listed across our M&P 9/40 M2.0 collections and is built for hiking, hunting and anytime a pack hip belt sits where your holster would.
Will My M&P Optic Fit?
Our GEN6 holsters are designed for optic clearance, including larger optics. If you run an unusual red dot or a tall mount, check the product page notes or ask us before ordering. Our optics-ready holster fit guide explains what to look for.
How Do You Fit-Test a New Holster on Your M&P?
Every holster we ship gets seated and drawn on a dedicated test gun for that model before it leaves the shop. Still, run this check at home before you carry:
- Unload the pistol, remove the magazine and lock the slide to confirm it is clear.
- Seat the gun and listen for a clean retention click.
- Make sure the trigger guard is fully covered and nothing presses on the trigger.
- Draw slowly ten times, then at normal speed. Watch for drag or binding.
- Adjust the retention screw in small steps if it feels too tight or too loose.
- If it does not click, binds, or leaves the trigger exposed, do not carry it. Call us.
We walk through what a correct fit looks like in how we fit-test every holster.
QUICKSHIP or CUSTOM: Which Should You Order?
Quickship holsters are built in black and ship within 5 business days. Custom holsters let you pick colors and patterns and ship within 15 business days. Fit, retention and materials are the same either way. If you need it on your belt this month, order Quickship. If you want it to look like yours, go Custom. Our Quickship vs Custom breakdown has the details.
What Gun Belt Should You Run With It?
A good holster on a flimsy belt still sags and prints. Use a stiff, purpose-built gun belt. For sizing, add 4 inches to your pant size; that leaves room for an IWB holster and a shirt tuck. See our gun belts and our guide to the best gun belt for IWB carry.
Still Not Sure Which M&P Holster to Get?
Tell us your exact model, barrel length, light, optic and how you carry, and we will point you to the right mold. We would rather answer a question than have you guess. Every C&G holster is built in the USA by veterans and law enforcement and backed by our lifetime warranty. Refunds, if you ever need one, are processed within 10 business days.
