LIMA Isn't Just a Letter — It's a Different Holster
The most common mistake we see: buyers assume the MOD1-LIMA is simply an "upgraded" MOD1. It is not. The MOD1-LIMA is a completely different SKU, molded around a completely different geometry. The LIMA designation means the Kydex shell is precision-molded around both your firearm and a specific mounted weapon light. That changes everything about how the holster fits, retains, and functions.
This article exists to help you make the right call before you order, not after. With 30.9% of likely U.S. voters now carrying a concealed handgun at least occasionally as of August 2026, purpose-built holster education matters. By the time you finish reading, you'll know exactly which variant belongs on your belt.
The Origin of the MOD1 System: Built by Operators, for Operators
The MOD1 system was co-developed by C&G Holsters and SGM (ret.) Jamey Caldwell of 1 Minute Out. It debuted publicly at SHOT Show 2020 as the first IWB holster to incorporate a hinge between the holster body and the magazine carrier.
Caldwell's credentials speak for themselves: 21+ years in U.S. Army Special Operations, 7 years with the 75th Ranger Regiment, 14 years in a Special Missions Unit, 14 combat deployments, over 500 missions, and three valor medals. He is a recognized subject matter expert in night vision and close-quarters battle. That expertise in low-light operations makes his input on light-bearing holster design uniquely credible.
The name "1 Minute Out" references the call given one minute before hitting a target — a philosophy of constant readiness that shaped every design decision in the MOD1 system. C&G Holsters was founded by a retired Law Enforcement Officer and Master Firearms Instructor. Two operator-credentialed organizations built one system. The MOD1-LIMA is the natural evolution of that readiness mindset: if you train and operate with a weapon light, your holster must be built for that exact configuration.
What the MOD1 and MOD1-LIMA Share
Both variants are built to the same standard. The differences are in shell geometry, not build quality. Here is what they share:
- Patent-pending body-conforming hinge system
- CNC-molded Kydex to .003-inch accuracy
- Adjustable retention screws
- Tall sight channel with optic compatibility (RMR, SRO, Red Dots)
- Open bottom for threaded barrels and compensators
- ALPHA Upgrade belt clips (1.75" CNG or 1.5" DCC metal clips)
The hinge system allows the holster and magazine carrier to flex independently with your body's natural movement, or lock into a fixed position. This reduces hot spots and pressure points during extended appendix carry and improves concealment by contouring to your frame. It is why the MOD1 system feels different from rigid, one-piece sidecar designs.
The current GEN6 build includes reinforced Hyder ribs for crack resistance, a redesigned integrated concealment wedge, and precision CNC molding for a consistent seal across every unit. Both variants use .093" Kydex thickness, the same grade used in duty and full-size carry applications. That thickness ensures the hinge system handles leverage forces without flexing. Both variants are 100% American-made, CNC-machined from custom aluminum molds for a consistent, repeatable draw every time.
The Critical Difference: Shell Geometry and Retention Physics
This is where the two variants diverge, and it matters more than most people realize.
The MOD1 shell is molded for a bare pistol. Retention occurs at the trigger guard area, and the holster ships with a Dark Wing concealment attachment that leverages your belt to push the grip inward against your body.
The MOD1-LIMA shell is molded around the pistol-plus-light combination. Because the weapon light passes through the shell first, retention shifts to the light housing itself, not the trigger guard area. The MOD1-LIMA ships with a Light Wing attachment designed to work around the light's footprint, rather than the Dark Wing found on the standard MOD1.
This is not a minor fit issue. It is a fundamental retention physics difference that affects safe draw and re-holster. The shell geometry determines where the Kydex grips the weapon, and those two grip points are in entirely different locations on each variant.
A question we get constantly: "Can I run my MOD1-LIMA without the light attached?" The answer is no. Without the light present, the shell cannot achieve proper retention, and safe trigger guard coverage is compromised.
One more critical detail: the MOD1-LIMA is model-specific and light-specific. A holster made for a Glock 19 with a TLR-7 will not fit a Glock 19 with a TLR-8, and it will not fit a bare Glock 19. When you order, you must specify both your exact firearm model and your exact weapon light model. No exceptions.
Which One Do You Actually Need?
Choose the MOD1 if:
- You carry without a weapon light mounted
- You want maximum concealment with the Dark Wing
- You want the simplest ordering process (firearm model only)
- You train and carry with a bare pistol
Choose the MOD1-LIMA if:
- You carry with a weapon light permanently mounted (TLR-7, TLR-7A, TLR-8, TLR-8A, TLR-8A G, or other supported models)
- You follow the "train as you carry" philosophy and your training setup includes a light
- You are a LEO, military, or executive protection professional whose duty setup includes a mounted light
The 1 Minute Out readiness philosophy is straightforward: if you train with a light, you carry with a light, and your holster must match that exact setup. Switching holsters between training and carry defeats the purpose. Weapon light adoption is accelerating among civilian carriers who follow law enforcement and military best practices, and the MOD1-LIMA serves that crossover audience directly.
Both variants are available in Quickship (5-day dispatch, black, most popular configurations) and fully Custom options. The MOD1/MOD1-LIMA collection covers both variants with broad gun-model compatibility.
Ordering the MOD1-LIMA: What You Need to Know Before You Buy
Before purchasing a MOD1-LIMA, confirm two pieces of information:
- Your exact firearm model, including generation and frame size
- Your exact weapon light model, because the holster is light-specific, not light-compatible
The standard MOD1 ordering process is simpler: firearm model only, no light specification required.
Do not order a MOD1-LIMA based on light "category" rather than exact model. A TLR-7 and a TLR-7A are different SKUs that require different shells. Getting this wrong means the holster will not fit.
Quickship MOD1-LIMA options cover the most popular pistol and light combinations. Less common pairings require the Custom configuration with standard lead times. If you are unsure about compatibility, our team will confirm before you order. Our staff includes U.S. Military Veterans, LEOs, and competitive shooters who carry these systems daily. They are practitioners, not sales staff.
The Standard Is Set — Now Pick Your Variant
The decision is straightforward: if you carry bare, choose the MOD1. If you carry with a mounted light, choose the MOD1-LIMA. Never mix the two.
This system was built by operators who carry in the dark, designed around the principle that your gear must match your mission exactly. The right holster is the one that matches how you actually carry, every single day.
Over 4,200 customer reviews back both variants. Every unit ships from our facility, 100% American-made, CNC-machined from custom aluminum molds to .003-inch precision. The standard is consistent across every holster we build. Your job is to pick the variant that fits your carry setup. We have already done the rest.
