Review: C&G Holsters Covert Kydex IWB From Shooting Illustrated

A WONDERFULL no nonsense review from Shooting Illustrated

========================================================

Sometimes you just need a basic, solid carry option without a ton of frills or fanfare. This is exactly what C&G Holsters offers in the IWB Covert Kydex Holster — less drama, great reliability, back to the basics.

The IWB Covert Kydex Holster starts with a .08-inch Kydex taco shell exterior molded to your gun model. The Kydex grade they use is rugged and solid, with just enough give to make it comfortable against the body yet strong enough to stay fully open for easy reholstering, a must for any good Kydex rig. Reholstering can be a dangerous component of gun movement, so the last thing you need is to use your support hand to help (can you say muzzle hazard?) or an accidental discharge because something inadvertently activated the trigger and discharged a round somewhere you didn't want it to go. For sturdiness, I give this holster an A+.

A standard one-piece plastic belt clip held on by two Philips screw rides the outside. One of my pet peeves is clips that are too stiff to clip over a belt one-handed. This is a problem whether I carry appendix or strong-side hip. I need to get the holster on and off with one hand. Yet it also needs to be stiff enough to hold its position all day long, through a ton of standing, sitting, walking, and general daily movement. The clip C&G chose performed flawlessly. It was the perfect strength and rigidity to stay locked onto my belt yet was easy to put on in the morning and take off at night.

Retention is easy to adjust via a single Philips screw with Chicago backer right below the trigger guard. Mine came out of the bag set perfectly, verified with my flip test. Just for giggles (and to be sure it worked as advertised), I played with it and clamped it down all the way. The gun was locked in and didn’t move, even when I tugged on it. Obviously, I would never carry the gun this way, but it was great to see that the holster stood up to the stress.

Do you carry with an optic? The IWB Covert Kydex Holster comes optic cut from the factory. It also has a suppressor-sight channel to allow for easy holstering without scratching whatever sights your gun carries. This is an especially nice feature given how expensive upgrade sights are. Protect your investment.

At $59.99, the IWB Covert Kydex Holster from C&G will not break the bank. Is it a fancy, schmancy holster with all sorts of decorations and feature upgrades? Nope, but it’s not supposed to be. It’s a solid choice in a basic option for either lefties or righties.
