SIG Sauer Holster Guide: P365, P320 & X-Macro

Your SIG Holster Might Not Fit Your SIG — Here's Why

Here's a fact that catches most SIG owners off guard: the P365, P365XL, and P365 X-Macro are not interchangeable when it comes to holsters. They look similar. They share a name. But they have different external dimensions, and ordering the wrong holster is one of the most common mistakes we see.

The stakes are real. According to SIG Sauer's official press release, the P365 was the #1 best-selling handgun in America in 2023, and the P320 ranked #2 for the second consecutive year on GunBroker.com's annual report. With approximately 20.88 million active concealed carry permit holders in the U.S. and 29 Constitutional Carry states, getting your holster selection right is not optional.

C&G Holsters was founded by a retired Law Enforcement Officer and Master Firearms Instructor. This guide is built on real-world carry and duty experience, not guesswork.

SIG P365 Family Holster Compatibility: What Actually Fits What

The P365 family has expanded rapidly since its 2018 launch, and the holster compatibility picture has gotten complicated. Here's the breakdown you need.

The standard P365, P365X, and P365 SAS all share the same holster footprint. A holster molded for any one of these three will fit the others. This is the easy group.

The P365XL requires its own dedicated holster shell. A P365XL holster will physically accept a standard P365 or P365X, but that extra muzzle length creates additional printing under tight clothing, per PHLster's compatibility guide. It works, but it is not ideal for concealed carry.

The P365 X-Macro and the newer P365 FUSE each require their own dedicated holster shells. Neither is compatible with standard P365 or P365XL holsters. Full stop.

The P365 AXG Legion uses a metal frame that changes the pistol's external profile. Most Kydex holsters molded for the polymer P365 will not seat correctly. Verify compatibility before purchasing.

Then there's the P365 X-Macro Comp. The compensator adds length and changes the muzzle profile, requiring an open-muzzle or comp-specific holster shell. A standard X-Macro shell will not accommodate it.

The core rule is simple: identify your exact P365 variant before selecting a holster. This family is not interchangeable.

Light-Bearing and Optic-Cut Holsters for the P365 Family

A standard P365 X-Macro holster molded to the factory pistol profile will not fit with a weapon light attached. A dedicated light-bearing shell is required, as noted by Alien Gear Holsters. This is non-negotiable.

Light selection must come before holster selection. The Nightstick TCM-550XL and Streamlight TLR-7A have different footprints and require different holster shells. They are not interchangeable with each other. Ordering a "light-bearing" holster without specifying your exact light is a recipe for a return.

The same logic applies to optics. An optics-ready slide does not mean any holster will clear the optic. An optic-cut shell must be specified for the exact red dot you're running.

Lock in your weapon light and optic configuration first, then order a holster molded for that exact pistol-plus-accessory combination. This is the single most common and costly mistake X-Macro buyers make. Our SIG P365-XMACRO IWB COVERT/ALPHA Kydex Holster, available via Quickship, is purpose-built for X-Macro owners in both standard and light-bearing configurations.

SIG P320 Holster Guide: Slide Size Is What Matters

The most misunderstood rule in P320 holster selection: P320 holsters are sized by slide length, not grip module size. The P320's modular design lets you swap grip modules freely, but the slide is what the holster actually wraps around. This is why buyers frequently order the wrong fit.

The P320 Compact and P320 Carry both use the same 3.9-inch compact slide. A holster molded for one will fit both, regardless of which grip module you're running. Per Rounded Gear's P320 buyer's guide, this is the most popular P320 configuration for concealed carry.

The P320 Full-Size uses a 4.7-inch barrel and slide. It requires a holster specifically molded for the full-size configuration and is not interchangeable with Compact or Carry holsters.

Safety is paramount. The P320's striker-fired trigger system makes full trigger guard coverage a non-negotiable requirement. Any holster that leaves the trigger guard exposed creates unacceptable risk of unintended discharge from foreign objects entering the trigger space.

Consider the P320's global military pedigree. It serves as the U.S. M17/M18. The Canadian Armed Forces adopted it as the C22, with an initial order of 7,000 pistols announced in October 2022 and an option for 9,500 more, per Armourer's Bench. In December 2025, Switzerland selected the P320 as its new standard military sidearm, replacing the SIG P220 that had been in service since the 1970s. A platform with this level of adoption demands duty-grade holster standards.

For law enforcement and duty carry, Level II retention and light-bearing OWB configurations are the appropriate baseline. C&G's SIG P320/M17 TLR-1/HL/X OWB Tactical Kydex Holster is purpose-built for exactly this role.

IWB vs. OWB: Choosing the Right Carry Style for Your SIG

IWB (inside-the-waistband) and AIWB (appendix carry) are the dominant choices for concealed carry of the P365 family. The P365's slim 1.0-inch width and 18 oz weight make it exceptionally well-suited for all-day IWB carry. As noted by Pew Pew Tactical, the X-Macro Comp delivers 17+1 capacity at just 22 oz, making even the larger P365 variants viable for concealed carry.

AIWB continues to dominate among competitive shooters and experienced concealed carriers for its draw speed and retention advantages. A properly designed AIWB holster with a claw or wing attachment minimizes printing by leveraging the belt line to push the grip into the body.

OWB (outside-the-waistband) is the standard for duty carry, range use, and open carry. The P320's widespread law enforcement and military adoption makes OWB with positive retention the default for LE and military users.

Kydex material quality matters and is rarely discussed. Thicker Kydex (.093-inch) provides superior rigidity and retention consistency compared to thinner .080-inch shells. This is a key differentiator that separates American-made holsters from generic imports. At C&G, our holsters are CNC-machined from custom aluminum molds for a consistent, repeatable draw every time.

How to Select the Right SIG Holster: A Decision Framework

Cut through the noise with these five steps:

  1. Identify your exact SIG variant. Use the compatibility maps above. Do not assume family members share a holster footprint. A P365 is not a P365XL is not an X-Macro.
  2. Lock in your accessory configuration before buying. If you're running a weapon light or red dot, choose those first. Then buy a holster molded for that exact combination. Adding a light later means buying a new holster.
  3. Choose your carry mode. IWB or AIWB for concealed carry. OWB for duty, range, or open carry. Match the holster design to your actual use case, not a hypothetical one.
  4. Verify trigger guard coverage. Full enclosure of the trigger guard is a hard requirement for any holster. This is especially critical for the P320's striker-fired system, where foreign objects in the trigger guard can cause unintended discharge.
  5. Prioritize American-made Kydex with verifiable quality standards. CNC-machined molds, consistent retention pressure, and a manufacturer staffed by people who actually carry. Not a generic import with a marketing budget.

At C&G Holsters, every holster is designed and manufactured by a team of U.S. Military Veterans, LEOs, and competitive shooters. Our 6th-generation holster design reflects continuous improvement driven by the people who depend on these products daily. With over 4,200 verified customer reviews and broad SIG model compatibility, the track record speaks for itself.

Carry With Confidence: The Right Holster Makes the Difference

The P365 and P320 are the #1 and #2 best-selling handguns in America for a reason. They deserve a holster engineered to the same standard.

Remember the critical rules: P365 family variants are not interchangeable. P320 holsters are sized by slide length, not grip module. Light-bearing and optic-cut shells must match your exact accessory configuration. No exceptions.

C&G Holsters is 100% American-made, CNC-machined from custom aluminum molds, and built on 6th-generation design. Quickship options are available for fast delivery. Every holster is built by people who carry for a living.
