Weapon Light Holster Fit Chart: TLR-7, TLR-8, TLR-1 & X300 Compatibility Guide

One Light Change Can Break Your Entire Holster Setup

A light-bearing holster is molded around the weapon light as much as the firearm itself. Swap the light, and your holster no longer fits. That means the correct buying order is light first, holster second.

Light-bearing and optics-ready configurations are among the top drivers of holster market growth in 2026, and more shooters than ever are running weapon-mounted lights on their carry guns. The problem: confusing model names, nearly identical dimensions, and subtle geometry changes mean one wrong assumption costs you a holster.

This article is your definitive fit chart. We map every variant of the TLR-7, TLR-7 Sub, TLR-8, TLR-1, and SureFire X300 to the correct C&G TACTICAL holster mold. This data comes directly from our engineering team and CNC mold specifications, built by veterans and LEOs who carry these exact lights on duty.

The Master Fit Chart: Every Light Variant Mapped to Its C&G TACTICAL Holster

Bookmark this chart. It covers every major weapon light variant we support in the TACTICAL series and tells you exactly which models share a mold and which ones don't.

TLR-7 Family

  • TLR-7, TLR-7A, TLR-7X: All three share one C&G TACTICAL holster mold. They are dimensionally identical at 2.58 inches and 2.4 oz.
  • TLR-7 HL-X: Does NOT share the standard TLR-7 mold. Its extended face-cap creates a larger footprint (2.88 inches) and requires its own dedicated holster mold.

TLR-7 Sub Family

  • P365/P365XL version: Dedicated platform-specific mold.
  • Glock 43X/48 version: Separate dedicated mold.
  • Springfield Hellcat version: Separate dedicated mold.

None of these are interchangeable with each other or with the standard TLR-7 mold.

TLR-8 Family

  • TLR-8, TLR-8 G, TLR-8 A, TLR-8 A G, TLR-8 X, TLR-8 X G: All six variants share the same C&G TACTICAL holster mold. Red laser, green laser, ambidextrous switch, USB rechargeable — the mold covers all of them.

The TLR-8 does NOT fit in a TLR-7 holster. Despite sharing the same core length and width, the laser housing adds height that prevents proper seating and misaligns retention points.

TLR-1 Family

  • TLR-1, TLR-1 HL-X and TLR-1 HL: All share the same mold at 3.63 inches and 4.32 oz.

SureFire X300 Family

  • X300U-A, X300U-B, X300T-A, X300T-B: All share one C&G TACTICAL holster mold. The X300U-B at 3.76 inches is the longest of the group, but all four are dimensionally equivalent for holster fit.
  • X300V and non-listed variants: May not share this footprint. Verify before ordering.

The rule is simple: same gun, different light = different holster. No exceptions.

TLR-7 and TLR-7 Sub: The Most Misunderstood Fit in the Market

The TLR-7 family causes more buyer confusion than any other weapon light lineup. Multiple sub-variants carry nearly identical names but have different geometries, and the consequences of guessing wrong are real.

Start with the good news. The TLR-7, TLR-7A, and TLR-7X are dimensionally identical for holster purposes. One C&G TACTICAL mold covers all three. If you own any of these, you're set.

Now the trap. The TLR-7 HL-X outputs 1,000 lumens in a 2.88-inch body, but its extended face-cap creates a footprint that will not seat in a standard TLR-7 holster. It needs its own dedicated mold.

The TLR-7 Sub is an entirely different animal. The P365/P365XL, Glock 43X/48, and Hellcat versions each use a different mounting key and have slightly different geometry. Using the wrong mounting key causes the light to protrude forward, and the holster will not close properly. A holster molded for the standard TLR-7 will not fit any TLR-7 Sub variant, and TLR-7 Sub variants are not interchangeable with each other.

One more note: the TLR-7 Sub and TLR-8 Sub were designed for compact and subcompact pistols without a full 1913 Picatinny rail. Running a Sub light on a full-size pistol with a 1913 adapter is technically possible, but it severely limits your holster selection. Confirm compatibility before committing to that configuration.

TLR-8 Variants: Red Laser, Green Laser, Same Holster Mold

The TLR-8 lineup has six variants, and the naming convention makes it look more complicated than it is. Here's the breakdown:

  • TLR-8: Red laser, standard switch.
  • TLR-8 G: Green laser, standard switch.
  • TLR-8 A: Red laser, ambidextrous switch.
  • TLR-8 A G: Green laser, ambidextrous switch.
  • TLR-8 X: Red laser, USB rechargeable.
  • TLR-8 X G: Green laser, USB rechargeable.

All six share the same C&G TACTICAL holster mold. You do not need a different holster for the green laser version, the rechargeable version, or the ambidextrous version.

The critical distinction most competitor content ignores: the TLR-8 cannot use a TLR-7 holster. The laser housing adds significant height to the bottom of the unit. When you try to seat a TLR-8 in a TLR-7 holster, the laser housing bottoms out and the retention points don't align. Our TACTICAL mold accounts for this geometry precisely, so every TLR-8 variant locks in with a consistent, repeatable draw.

TLR-1 and X300: Full-Size Light Holster Compatibility Explained

The TLR-1 and SureFire X300 dominate holster support for full-sized pistols, and our TACTICAL series covers both with dedicated molds.

The TLR-1 and TLR-1 HL share the same 3.39-inch footprint and fit the same C&G TACTICAL holster mold. If you own either variant, you're covered. The TLR-1 HL-X is a different story. At 3.63 inches and 4.32 oz, it looks nearly identical to the TLR-1 HL, yet it requires a completely different holster mold. Our TLR-1 TACTICAL holster explicitly does not accommodate the TLR-1 HL-X. This is one of the most common mistakes we see, and it's an expensive one.

For SureFire, the X300U-A, X300U-B, X300T-A, and X300T-B all share one holster mold. The X300U-B is the longest at 3.76 inches, but all four are dimensionally equivalent for holster fit. The X300V and other non-listed X300 variants may not share this footprint. If you're running one of those, verify before you order.

C&G TACTICAL Series: Three Carry Styles, One Standard of Precision

Every light on this chart maps to one of three carry configurations in the TACTICAL series. Here's what each one brings to the table.

IWB TACTICAL: Precision CNC-formed Kydex with adjustable retention, full trigger guard coverage, suppressor-height sight channels, open-bottom design for threaded barrels, and optic-ready clearance. This is the foundation of the TACTICAL line.

IWB TACTICAL/ALPHA Upgrade: Everything in the IWB TACTICAL, plus a concealment wing for better body contact and reduced printing, along with a CNG Metal Belt Clip. When you're concealing a weapon light that adds bulk to your setup, the ALPHA upgrade makes a meaningful difference.

OWB TACTICAL: The OWB TACTICAL Kydex Holster features a built-in Kickramp that tucks the muzzle and mounted light inward, reducing printing even in an outside-the-waistband configuration. For duty and range use with larger lights like the TLR-1 or X300, that inward tuck is a critical detail.

All TACTICAL holsters are CNC engineered to .003-inch tolerance, use antimicrobial Kydex, and feature corrosion-resistant hardware. Every one is made in the USA by veterans and law enforcement professionals. C&G was founded by a retired LEO and Master Firearms Instructor, and those tolerances exist for a reason: a consistent, repeatable draw under stress depends on a holster that fits the exact light on the gun. With over 4,200 customer reviews across multiple light and firearm combinations, the TACTICAL series fit claims are validated by real-world users, not just spec sheets.

Custom Colors and Patterns: Your TACTICAL Holster, Your Configuration

Most fit-chart content stops at compatibility. We don't. Every TACTICAL holster is available in Quickship configurations (ships within 5 days) or fully custom color and pattern builds, including camo, multicam, and specialty patterns that let you match your gear to your mission or your identity.

Customization does not compromise fit precision. Every custom TACTICAL holster is CNC-machined from the same aluminum molds to the same .003-inch tolerance as our standard builds.

For LEOs, competitive shooters, and executive protection professionals, a holster should perform to a standard and reflect your identity. Through our Firearms Instructor Program and direct support for military units, we invest in the community that carries our gear, not just the product itself.

Get the Right Holster the First Time

Identify your exact light variant before selecting a holster. Not after. Not "close enough." Exact.

The three most common mistakes we see:

  1. Assuming the TLR-7 and TLR-8 share a holster mold (they don't; the laser housing changes the geometry).
  2. Assuming TLR-7 Sub variants are interchangeable (they're not; each platform has its own mounting key and mold).
  3. Assuming the TLR-1 HL-X fits a standard TLR-1 holster (it doesn't; the HL-X is 3.63 inches vs. 3.39 inches).

Our TACTICAL series product pages let you select by light model and carry style, so there's no guesswork involved.

C&G TACTICAL holsters are built by people who carry: veterans, LEOs, and competitive shooters who understand that a wrong-fitting holster is not just an inconvenience. It's a liability. Use the fit chart above, find your light, and order the holster built for it.
